Day 56: February 25, 2009

Question 12:
If you got a tattoo, what would you get and where would you put it? Why? (Or, if you already have a tattoo, what did you get, where is it, and why did you choose that?

Responses:
  • I do have a tattoo of the big dipper and the north star on the left side of my lower back, basically my left love handle. Its the symbol from the Alaskan flag. I spent the summer before college on a 42 day canoeing trip on the Noatak river in Alaska with 5 other girls. It was one of the best times of my life. After the trip, before school started, we all went out together and got the same tattoo of the Alaskan flag in honor of the summer we spent together in Alaska. I chose to put it on my back because it's easy to cover up for professional reasons.
  • I would get a snake to cover up a scar I received from a car accident many years ago in my right buttocks.
  • I already have a tattoo. I love it when people ask me if I have a tattoo. I say yes and then they look at me quizzically because I don’t look like the type to get a tattoo and I’m also the type to mock those who do get them. People challenge me and I like to bet them. After we have negotiated the terms of the wager I pull up my shirt and show them the dot I have on my sternum where I was marked for a center line for radiation treatment. People always get uncomfortable and then a little angry because not only did they lose but it’s a downer to talk about cancer and it’s barely a tattoo. But it is and that makes me smile.
  • Have one—upper back. Of a Pride triangle and Libra symbol

Song:
Is There a Ghost, by Band of Horses

Lyrics:
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

Day 55: February 24, 2009

Question 151:
Would you rather face a tsunami or an avalanche? Why?

Responses:
  • Tsunami - can always go higher to escape

Song:
The Last One, by Cary Brothers

Lyrics:
Did you know
That the right won?
Another fool
You're the sidearm

And it's enough
That you broadcast
You got the touch

This is the last one
This is the last one

Did you find
What you wanted?
Another match
For the straw man

I've had enough
It can bleed through
You think you're tough

Well, this is the last one
This is the last one

Hold on to me
One more night
Hold on to me
Can't take it all
Can't take it all

And you know
That I need you
But you know
I can see through you

This is the last one
You can't take it all

Monday, February 23, 2009

Day 54: February 23, 2009

Question 175:
What's the sexiest accent? Why?

Responses:
  • Italian--so passionate. Absolute no's: Southern (too dumb), French (greasy, dirty), Spanish (angry), Chinese/Japanese (too cute)

Song:
Divine Intervention, by Matthew Sweet

Lyrics:
I don't know where I'm gonna live
Don't know if I'll find a place
I'd have to think about it some
And that I do not wish to face
I guess I'm counting on his
Divine intervention

I cannot understand my god
I don't know why it gets to me
One day my life is filled with joy
And then we find we disagree
All depending on his
Divine intervention

Does he love us does he love us?
Does he love us does he love us?
I look around and all I see is destruction
We're all counting on his
Divine intervention

When he comes the sun shine
When he comes the sun shine
Sunshine, the sunshine
Here it comes...

Day 53: February 22, 2009

Question 68:
What's the best way to spend a rainy weekend?

Responses:
  • In bed with my boyfriend…seriously. A full fridge, the paper and my man. Yum. When I was single I dreamt of the rainy weekend scenario. I longed to have someone to be with and hang out with in sweatpants. Now that I am a couple, it’s even better than I dreamed of.
  • On the couch watching movies and recovering from the crazy week that just happened. Or going to the movies in my cute marc jacobs gum boots.
  • At the Met. In a quiet café with a book. In bed.
  • Alternating sleep and watching TV/movies on the couch. Or cooking.

Song:
Steeple Full of Swallows, by The Gourds

Lyrics:
Steeple full of swallows
Hammer in the weeds
Heart full of my head
Mosquito’s on my feet
You must be the fine hairs
You must be the frown
You must be the reason
All the lights go down

Steeple full of swallows
Smoke in the house
Heart full of my head
Mud in my mouth
You must be the cinder
You must be the sound
You must be the reason
All the lights go down

Day 52: February 21, 2009

Question 81:
Should the individual or society be of primary importance?

Responses:
  • No
  • Ideally if the individual is raised not egocentrically but in a loving home with good education and morals then society will see the fruits of the labors of putting the individual first. From children to each other to our parents and friends, treating the individual with respect should lead to a respectful society.
  • We should focus on the society so the individual can happily live in it. In places where the individual is more important than society, there is often corruption and a non-functioning society. Basic needs such as shelter, food, and clothing are scarce. Societies should however never be allowed to involve themselves in religion, forcing people to go to war, deciding whether women can abort an unborn baby and deciding who can marry. These are individual rights that must be respected by society.
  • Society

Song:
This Is It, by Ryan Adams

Lyrics:
Let me sing a song for you
That's never been sung before
All the words were meant for you
And never been said before
She kisses when she sleeps
She kisses when she's sleeping
Let me sing a song for you
A song that's worth the dreaming

Don't waste my time
This is it
This is really happening

What's the use in marigolds
These flowers are for you
All the lights go after burn
The sky it splits in two
I kiss her on her teeth
I kiss her on her teeth, hmm
Let me sing a song for you that alters your belief

Don't waste my time
This is it
This is really happening

Question 105:
Which vice would you indulge in if it had no negative side effects?

Responses:
  • Food now; last 45 years: sex
  • Overeating

Song:
Already Home, by Ha-Ash

Lyrics:
Packed my bags and kissed your cheek
Turned around so I didn't see you cry, you cry
Sometimes you just can't explain
The reasons why you have to say goodbye, goodbye

It took something, it took falling,
It took distance, it took time,
It took a lot of getting lost to realize
I was already home, right where I was supposed to be

You were right in front of me
I was not alone
I was already home, sometimes you're too close to see
The one thing that you really need has been there all along
It took leaving you to know, I was already home

It took a long, long road to see,
What matters most in life to me was gone was gone
But I thought what I was looking for
Was right here waiting at your door
I was wrong, so wrong

It took tumbling, it took falling,
It took distance, it took time,
It took a lot of getting lost to realize
I was already home, right where I was supposed to be

You were right in front of me
I was not alone
I was already home, sometimes you're too close to see
The one thing that you really need has been there all along
It took leaving you to know, I was already home

I was so caught up in the thrill of
Something different something, something new,
It took a lot of missing you to see the truth
I was already home, right where I was supposed to be

You were right in front of me
I was not alone
I was already home, sometimes you're too close to see
The one thing that you really need has been there all along
It took leaving you to know, I was already home
It took leaving you to know
I was already home
I was already home

Day 50: February 19, 2009

Question 19:
If you could master one instrument, which would it be?

Responses:
  • The piano. There is so much music that I would love to be able to express, and it’s such a beautiful instrument with which to spend time. Non-transportable, it becomes a lover in your home, or in whatever space you go to play it and see it, caressing the keys. Then you can walk away from it.
  • My voice

Song:
Fast As You Can, by Fiona Apple

Lyrics:
I let the beast in too soon, I don't know how to live
Without my hand on his throat; I fight him always & still
O darling, it's so sweet, you think you know how crazy
How crazy I am
You say you don't spook easy, you won't go, but I know
And I pray that you will
Fast as you can, baby run-free yourself of me
Fast as you can
I may be soft in your palm but I'll soon grow
Hungry for a fight, and I will not let you win
My pretty mouth will frame the phrases that will
Disprove your faith in man
So if you catch me trying to find my way into your
Heart from under your skin
Fast as you can, baby scratch me out, free yourself
Fast as you can
Fast as you can, baby scratch me out, free yourself
Fast as you can
Sometimes my mind don't shake and shift
But most of the time, it does
And I get to the place where I'm begging for a lift
Or I'll drown in the wonders and the was
And I'll be your girl, if you say it's a gift
And you give me some more of your drugs
Yeah, I'll be your pet, if you just tell me it's a gift
'cause I'm tired of whys, choking on whys,
Just need a little because, because
I let the beast in and then;
I even tried forgiving him, but it's too soon
So I'll fight again, again, again, again, again.
And for a little while more, I'll soar the
Uneven wind, complain and blame
The sterile land
But if you're getting any bright ideas, quiet dear
I'm blooming within
Fast as you can, baby wait watch me, I'll be out
Fast as I can, maybe late but at least about
Fast as you can leave me, let this thing
Run it's route
Fast as you can (repeat 4 times)

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Day 49: February 18, 2009

Question 120:
If you lived to be 100, would it be more important to have a sharp mind or a fit body?

Responses:
  • Sharp mind--can always be mobile with a chair and machines

Song:
Play Something We Know, by Adam Hood

Lyrics:
I saw you walk in here
with that guitar in your hand
I thought I might ask you
what you might be playin'

Just one more question
Well, I know you gotta go
Me and my friends aren't drinkin'
We're just wonderin' if you know

Any Lynyrd Skynyrd?
Or American Pie?
Willie and Waylon?
Magic Carpet Ride?

How 'bout Marshall Tucker?
Or David Allan Coe?
Play somethin' we could sing to
Play somethin' we know.

Well I know how it is, dude
I used to have me a band
But our drummer, Ronnie,
he got on down at the plant.
Our singer got a girlfriend
well you know how that goes

So play somethin' we could sing to
Play somethin' we know

Do you know any Buffett?
Or any Pink Floyd?
How about some 'Dead, dude?
How about the Doors?

Do you know any Beatles?
Or any Rolling Stones?
Play somethin' we could sing to
Play somethin' we know

Man if you want me to
I'll sing a song with you
I used to sing the high part
My brother Donny is sittin' at the bar
He plays a mean guitar

What are you lookin' at man?
You don't want me to play?
Well, you bout to get your ass whooped,
You keep lookin' at me that way
Man I don't really mean it,
There's no need to call security.
I was only hopin'
that you'd sing a song for me.

Do you know Hank Jr.?
Or any any Steve Earle?
How about the Joker?
Or Brown Eyed Girl?
Sweet Home Alabama?
Or Curtis Lowe?

Play somethin' we could sing to
Play somethin' we know.
How bout some Neal Young?
Man, play some Whiskey River man.
Play somethin' we know
