Song:
Your Ex-Lover is Dead, by Stars

Lyrics:
God that was strange to see you again
Introduced by a friend of a friend
Smiled and said 'yes I think we've met before'
In that instant it started to pour,
Captured a taxi despite all the rain
We drove in silence across pont champlain
And all of the time you thought I was sad
I was trying to remember your name...

This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin
Tried to reach deep but you couldn't get in
Now you're outside me
You see all the beauty
Repent all your sin

It's nothing but time and a face that you lose
I chose to feel it and you couldn't chose
I'll write you a postcard
I'll send you the news
From a house down the road from real love...

Live through this, and you won't look back...
Live through this, and you won't look back...
Live through this, and you won't look back...

There's one thing I want to say, so I'll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to say

I'm not sorry there's nothing to say...

Day 84: March 25, 2009

Song:
Murray, by Pete Yorn

Lyrics:
I know a man who lives under his covers, Uh uh uh uh uh uh
Lost his mind from the TV
Now he's playing God

And somebody told him that he was no good at, Uh uh uh uh uh uh
He's talking out of the left side of his mouth

And he won't follow
These lines he's drawn for him
And he don't want to try
Seeing is believing
Lord knows what he sees here every night

Three little boys dress up in the morning, Uh uh uh uh uh uh
Come back home from the school yard
Talkin' bout Love

But on this occasion the boys feel the same, Uh uh uh uh uh uh
Something's holding them back there
I bet it was their mom

And they won't follow
These lines he's drawn for them
Cause they don't want to try
Seeing is believing
Lord knows what they see here every night

And we both know
That people change
When truth's not part of their lives
I've seen the love in their eyes
Don't say goodbye
Goodbye

I know a man who wakes up in the evening, Uh uh uh uh uh uh
Lost his mind from the TV
Now he's blaming God

And somebody told him that he's good for nothing, Uh uh uh uh uh uh
Now he screen prints American T-shirts
Through the night

And he won't follow
These lines they've drawn for him
And he don't want to try
Seeing is believing
Lord knows what he sees here

Every night

Song:
Rebellion (Lies), by The Arcade Fire

Lyrics:
Sleeping is giving in,
No matter what the time is.
Sleeping is giving in,
So lift those heavy eyelids.

People say that you'll die
Faster than without water.
But we know it's just a lie,
Scare your son, scare your daughter.

People say that your dreams
Are the only things that save ya.
Come on baby in our dreams,
We can live our misbehavior.

Every time you close your eyesLies, Lies!

People try and hide the night
Underneath the covers.
People try and hide the light
Underneath the covers.

Come on hide your lovers
Underneath the covers,
Come on hide your lovers
Underneath the covers.

Hidin' from your brothers
Underneath the covers,
Come on hide your lovers
Underneath the covers.

People say that you'll die
Faster than without water,
But we know it's just a lie,
Scare your son, scare your daughter,

Scare your son, scare your daughter.

Now here's the sun, it's alright! (Lies!)
Now here's the moon, it's alright! (Lies!)
Now here's the sun, it's alright! (Lies!)
Now here's the moon it's alright (Lies!)

But every time you close your eyes. (Lies!)

Song:
Jealousy, by Cary Brothers

Lyrics:
Just a voice inside your head
Whispering all the hope is dead
All the times you had to prove
That no one really loves you

I found you in a reflection
You didn't want me to see
I will give you all I have
Just look up, break down and believe

This is a glass parade
A fragile state
And I am trying not to break
And the stars are shining
The moon is right
And I would kill to be with you tonight

Wish you told me all the truth
So afraid to face an absolute
All the fights you had to lose
All the fear was put upon you

I found you when you were broken
Too many cracks of deceit
I will give you all I have
Just look up, break down and believe

This is a glass parade
A fragile state
And I am trying not to break
And the stars are shining
The moon is right
And I would kill to be with you tonight

This is the feeling, falling
So much I want to say
Show me the same emotion
Show me what's at stake
And how much can you take
When you realize your fate?

Hold me now as the car lights fade
And we are dancing in the glass parade
Dancing in the glass parade
We are dancing in the glass parade

It's just a voice inside your head

Song:
Teach Me to Stay, by Brian Maddox

Lyrics:
i am alone now / you’re never here
do you still miss me / when i disappear
there is a part of me that isn't clear

i just feel empty / i just feel old
nights are so lonely / no one to hold
there is a part of me that's growing cold

Chorus:
so give me a pill / but don't let me take it
give me your will / don't let me break it
give me until / until i can make it
make it okay

give me your tears / 'cause i feel like crying
give me your years / 'cause i feel like dying
give me your fears / to keep me from flying
flying away

teach me to stay
(second time to bridge)

where am i going / where am i from
is there a future / in what I’ve become
there is a part of me that's just begun

go to chorus

Bridge:
i have been waiting so long
what was i waiting for
i have been acting so wrong
what was i acting for
there is a part of me that isn’t sure

(go to chorus)

Day 80: March 21, 2009

Song:
Sometimes, by Clark Country

Lyrics:
The time had come at last.
We said a last goodbye.
And tho’ we both were sad
Neither one could cry.
Once in love, love now gone
We had to start anew.
And while we found it hard to face,
It’s what we all go through.
Sometimes you try
To understand
How love can come
Then go again.
Just when you think
Your heart won’t mend,
It’s love that finds you
in the end.

Many years have passed
Since we went separate ways.
I saw her on the street.
We were-n’t sure what to say.
But as we talked
Holding our own kids,
She said what we both knew:
Fate had someone in the cards
But it just wasn’t you.

Sometimes you try
To understand
How love can come
Then go again.
Just when you think
Your heart won’t mend,
It’s love that finds you
in the end.

Young love’s always so intense
Tho’ not always making sense.
And while it’s hard to see,
It’s not always meant to be.

(instrumental)

We were young, we thought we knew
What love’s supposed to feel.
But now that love has found us both,
We know that it’s for real.

Sometimes you try
To understand
How love can come
Then go again.

Just when you think
Your heart won’t mend,
It’s love that finds you
in the end. (Repeat slowly)

Day 79: March 20, 2009

Question 99:
In your opinion, what are the seven wonders of the world?

Responses:
  • I love this story and have to share it all rather than just stealing the ending - A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the current Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following got the most votes: 1. Egypt's Great Pyramids 2. Taj Mahal 3. Grand Canyon 4. Panama Canal 5. Empire State Building 6. St. Peter's Basilica 7. China's Great Wall. While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one quiet student hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the student if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many." The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help." The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are: To touch, to taste, to see, to hear, to feel, to laugh and to love. “ The room was full of silence. [I was surprised the kids mostly came up with man-made structures, but think that last girl said it best]
  • If the seven wonders of the world were intangible items, I would say that they would be things that make us human: emotion, logic/reasoning, language, instinct/intuition…
  • 1) Intelligence, 2) psychology, 3) contrast between ancient architecture with no resources vs modern architecture and limitless resources, 4) religion (specifically, acceptance of it without challenge), 5) laughing babies, 6) cancer, 7) color

Song:
Dream, by Priscilla Ahn

Lyrics:
I was a little girl alone in my little world who dreamed of a little home for me.
I played pretend between the trees, and fed my houseguests bark and leaves, and laughed in my pretty bed of green.

I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest swing.
I had a dream.

Long walks in the dark through woods grown behind the park, I asked God who I'm supposed to be.
The stars smiled down on me, God answered in silent reverie. I said a prayer and fell asleep.

I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest tree.
I had a dream.

Now I'm old and feeling grey. I don't know what's left to say about this life I'm willing to leave.
I lived it full and I lived it well, there's many tales I've lived to tell. I'm ready now, I'm ready now, I'm ready now to fly from the highest wing.

I had a dream
